The Diamondbacks ran into a veteran A’s team whose infield was nothing short of impressive (nothing got past these guys). Although we lost 6-0, this exciting and quick game was a bit closer than the score indicated.
1st Inning
The D-Backs mustered a single from Nick Halkias, but the rest of the bats were quiet to start the game.
The A’s got three runs across during the bottom of the 1st, but Nick grabbed a tapper to the mound and threw nicely to Adam Willametz at first.
2nd Inning
We went 1-2-3 in the second, as the D-Backs uncharacteristically struggled to get on base.
While the A’s continued to slap the ball around the field, Team Purple’s defense got to work during the bottom of the 2nd. Adam started it off with an easy, unassisted play at first and Nick snagged a liner at shortstop. But the fun play of the inning came from Brad Bednarcyzk. He tracked a long fly ball into left field, almost making an incredible shoestring catch — next time, Brad!
3rd Inning
Dylan Daniels started us off slapping a strong single into right, but it would be the only hit of the inning.
On D, Adam scooped one up at pitcher’s mound and tossed it to Emma Hinchcliffe at first. Dylan D also had a nice unassisted tag at third base.
4th Inning
Seb Malespini continued his hitting streak, but he was stranded at first in the fourth. Nick provided the bottom of the inning highlight, catching a very high popup at shortstop.
5th Inning
The D-Backs didn’t get anyone on base during our half of the inning. On defense, Emma at pitcher’s mound charged, scooped, and tossed a nice ball to Nick at first.
6th Inning
The Diamondbacks had the most interested inning of the young season during our ups in the 6th. Dylan Valenti, Tanner Bosse, and Kyle Bisson each singled to start us off. Then, Seb popped up to pitcher mound, which caught the young baserunners off-guard, and they were also thrown out at third and first. Yes, baseball fans, a rare triple play by the A’s ended the potential rally and game today.
In Sum
Dylan Daniels (who had a breakout game today) and Seb were the bright spots on offense. Tanner has found a home at catcher, while Nick, Adam, and Emma continue to impress on “D.”
